Social organizations caring for migrant children guide children to "help others and help themselves"
In China, the floating population is a huge group, and many of them take their children with them and go to the city together. These children are called "migrant children of migrant workers" or "floating children". It is a good thing for a family to be together, but because of the busy work and poor living conditions of parents, the education of some children is often ignored. With the support of the government, some social organizations began to serve the floating children in the community for free, and "Nanjing Collaborator" is one of them. Recently, they shared the story of caring for migrant children through "webcast".
MengMeng is conducting a live webcast of "Nanjing Collaborator 2022 New Year Friendship Association".
Solving the "last mile": social organizations guide children to "help others and help themselves"
Despite being a little green in front of the live camera, 13-year-old MengMeng bravely shared the harvest of the past year with the volunteers of "Nanjing Collaborator". MengMeng came from Shaanxi. Twelve years ago, with his parents coming to Nanjing from their hometown, his father was engaged in decorating and traveling all the year round. His mother worked late in the supermarket every day. Although his parents loved MengMeng very much, he rarely took time out to accompany him. Therefore, compared with children of the same age, MengMeng was taciturn and somewhat introverted. However, since 2018, the volunteers of "Nanjing Collaborator" began to help and accompany MengMeng, not only helping her with her homework, but also taking her to experience various interest classes, and MengMeng became more and more lively and outgoing. Wu Mengmeng: "There are brothers and sisters who take us to do our homework, and we can ask them questions if we can’t. In the afternoon, we will decide our interest activities according to our wishes. We will let go of the activities slowly, become fond of talking, and chat with people, especially wanting to experience the feeling of being a volunteer. "
Encouraged by the organization, one year ago, MengMeng took the initiative to join the volunteer team of "Nanjing Collaborators", participated in some practical activities in the community, and planned to carry out children’s handicraft interest classes, hoping to help more people. Wu Mengmeng: "Every summer camp, there will be some small reporters interviewing and helping others. Helping others means helping yourself, greatly improving yourself and making this society and the world a better place." "Unite and cooperate to help others and help themselves" is the motto of "Nanjing Collaborators". In the past 15 years, they have continued to care for migrant children, and at the same time, they want to tap the potential of every child. Wang Ruihai, social work supervisor of "Nanjing Collaborator", said: "Help our clients to respond to basic service needs and at the same time enhance their ability to solve problems. In the end, it can grow from a recipient to a helper and develop better in the city. "
In this regard, Zhang Xiaoyi, deputy stationmaster of Nanjing Juvenile Rescue and Protection Center, said: "It is better to teach people to fish than to teach them to fish. After teaching them some life skills and methods, including the way and method of dealing with others, they will have more energy themselves, instead of blindly accepting the help of others and moving forward with their own strength."
At the same time, some children with local household registration in Nanjing also volunteered to participate in the activities organized by "Nanjing Collaborators". Parents: "He can meet different partners, big brothers and big sisters, and also play some interactive games. Our children still like it very much. Now I think children are becoming more and more interested in communicating with others and are willing to share some things he has learned."
In addition to paying attention to migrant children and children in distress, in recent years, many social organizations have extended their service targets to the whole group of minors, for example, Nanjing Tongle Tongxiang Youth Service Center. This organization devotes itself to the growth education and psychological counseling of minors, provides service design related to mental health for minors, and conducts art courses and activities such as youth growth camp, cultural exchange, music calligraphy, picture book reading and so on, which are helpful to the healthy growth and development of teenagers. Under the service tenet of "equal service, helping others with love" and adhering to the spirit of "those who can help themselves and those who are good help others", it has established a multi-functional comprehensive team. At work, with reasonable intervention as a means to improve the comprehensive ability of the clients, we constantly explore new methods, new ideas, new forms and new products.

The service concept and content of "protection of minors" are changing.
The relevant person in charge of the Nanjing Minor Rescue and Protection Center said that this also reflects that the concept and content of minor protection services are changing. In June last year, the newly revised Law on the Protection of Minors in People’s Republic of China (PRC) was formally implemented, including six systems: family protection, school protection, social protection, network protection, government protection and judicial protection. Not only migrant children, but also the physical and mental health and legitimate rights and interests of the whole group of minors should be guaranteed, and the whole society should do its duty.
Zhang Xiaoyi said: The mode of protecting minors is also changing, from the past "filling the gaps" to "moderately inclusive", from special children to all children, and from child rescue to child protection to change the service concept. The content of the service has also changed from the original care to the protection of children’s rights and interests, so we also hope to form a pattern of "government-led, departmental cooperation, social participation and family responsibility", so that the whole society can form an atmosphere in which everyone cares for and helps minors.
